6.8CVE-2025-31130chainguardcargo-audit+37
EPSS score
0.26%
gitoxide is an implementation of git written in Rust. Before 0.42.0, gitoxide uses SHA-1 hash implementations without any collision detection, leaving it vulnerable to hash collision attacks. gitoxide uses the sha1_smol or sha1 crate, both of which implement standard SHA-1 without any mitigations for collision attacks. This means that two distinct Git objects with colliding SHA-1 hashes would break the Git object model and integrity checks when used with gitoxide. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.42.0.
5CVE-2025-22620chainguardcargo-audit+5
EPSS score
0.37%
gitoxide is an implementation of git written in Rust. Prior to 0.17.0, gix-worktree-state specifies 0777 permissions when checking out executable files, intending that the umask will restrict them appropriately. But one of the strategies it uses to set permissions is not subject to the umask. This causes files in a repository to be world-writable in some situations. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.17.0.
6.8CVE-2025-24890chainguardhelix+3
EPSS score
0.19%
gitoxide is an implementation of git written in Rust. Prior to 0.13.3, the gix-sec crate on Windows incorrectly treats repositories controlled by another user as trusted when an administrator runs a dependent program with an unfiltered elevated token. In gix-sec/src/identity.rs, gix_sec::identity::is_path_owned_by_current_user obtains folder_owner and token_owner, but its administrator-specific IsWellKnownSid and CheckTokenMembership checks examine the running token rather than confirming the directory owner. This bypasses safe.directory-style protection for repositories owned and configured by a limited user, allowing repository configuration or hooks to execute commands with the administrator's privileges when an affected operation is performed. Exploitation requires Windows, an elevated administrator, a program that relies on gix-sec trust results, and interaction with a repository controlled by another user. An unelevated UAC process is not affected, and cloning is not affected because repository configuration and hooks are not copied. This issue is fixed in version 0.13.3.
5.4CVE-2026-91986debianrust-gix-transport+4
EPSS score
0.23%
gitoxide gix-transport before 0.59.2 fails to filter control characters in git-daemon connect requests, allowing attackers to inject NUL/CR/LF bytes via crafted git URLs. Attackers can inject extra NUL-delimited protocol fields to spoof virtual hosts or inject newlines into daemon requests and logs.
7.1CVE-2026-0810chainguardcargo-audit+14
EPSS score
0.21%
A flaw was found in gix-date. The `gix_date::parse::TimeBuf::as_str` function can generate strings containing invalid non-UTF8 characters. This issue violates the internal safety invariants of the `TimeBuf` component, leading to undefined behavior when these malformed strings are subsequently processed. This could potentially result in application instability or other unforeseen consequences.
7.3CVE-2026-100419debianrust-gix-fs+2
EPSS score
0.15%
gitoxide gix-fs before 0.23.0 contains a path validation bypass vulnerability in the worktree checkout mechanism that allows attackers to escape the worktree directory via symlink manipulation. During forced checkout with overwrite_existing enabled, attackers can craft malicious repository trees where symlink entries replace validated directories, causing subsequent files to be written outside the worktree through the symlink for code execution or file manipulation.
7.8CVE-2026-44471chainguardcargo-audit+15
EPSS score
0.21%
gitoxide is an implementation of git written in Rust. Prior to 0.21.1, a malicious tree can be constructed that will, when checked out with gitoxide, permit writing an attacker-controlled symlink into any existing directory the user has write access to. During checkout, all symlink index entries are deferred and created after regular files using a single shared gix_worktree::Stack. Internally, this uses a gix_fs::Stack. gix_fs::Stack::make_relative_path_current() caches validated path prefixes: when the previously-processed leaf component exactly matches the leading component(s) of the next path, the leaf-to-directory transition at gix-fs/src/stack.rs invokes only delegate.push_directory(), never delegate.push(). In gix_worktree::stack::delegate::StackDelegate, when the state member is State::CreateDirectoryAndAttributesStack, Attributes::push_directory() only loads attributes (from the ODB, in the clone case), and does not perform any other checks. The on-disk symlink_metadata() check and unlink-on-collision live in StackDelegate::push()'s invocation of create_leading_directory(), which is therefore bypassed for the cached prefix. The final symlink is created with plain std::os::unix::fs::symlink, which follows symlinks in parent directories. Therefore, it's possible to provide a tree with duplicate symlink and directory entries that exploits this. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.21.1.
7.1CVE-2026-82250Crates.Iogix-packetline+3
EPSS score
0.43%
gitoxide gix-packetline versions before 0.21.5 contain a panic vulnerability in the TextRef implementation that occurs when processing side-band packet lines with empty payloads. A malicious Git server can send a crafted side-band packet to trigger an index out of bounds panic, aborting the client process during fetch operations without authentication.
7.6CVE-2026-82255Crates.Iogix-transport+3
EPSS score
0.38%
gitoxide versions from 0.25.4 contain an HTTP credential leak vulnerability in the curl-based transport backend where credentials are sent to attacker-controlled servers after HTTP redirects. The vulnerability occurs because credential validation checks the original URL instead of the effective URL after redirect, allowing attackers to steal authentication tokens through cross-domain redirects or HTTPS-to-HTTP downgrades.
8.7CVE-2026-82251Crates.Iogitoxide+4
EPSS score
0.52%
gitoxide before 0.52.1 fails to validate submodule names from .gitmodules configuration, allowing path traversal when deriving submodule git directories. Attackers can craft malicious submodule names with traversal segments to redirect state() and open() functions to repositories outside .git/modules, causing repository confusion and inspection of attacker-controlled repositories.
8.7CVE-2026-82253Crates.Iogix+6
EPSS score
0.66%
gitoxide (Rust crates gix <= 0.72.0 and gix-validate <= 0.10.0) contains a path traversal vulnerability. The submodule name validation function in gix-validate only checks the first occurrence of '..' via name.find(b".."), allowing crafted names such as 'a..b/../../../.git/' to bypass the check; additionally this validation is never invoked in production code paths. Combined with a trust inheritance flaw in Submodule::open(), where the parent repository's git_dir_trust (Trust::Full) is cloned and the ownership verification is skipped, an attacker can craft a malicious .gitmodules file so that a victim tool built on gitoxide reads arbitrary git repository configuration (including embedded credentials) with full trust, bypassing safe-directory protections. Fixed in gix 0.82.0 and gix-validate 0.11.1.
8.7CVE-2026-82252Crates.Iogitoxide+4
EPSS score
0.52%
gitoxide before 0.52.1 follows symlinks when reading the worktree .gitmodules file, allowing attackers to inject out-of-repository bytes into submodule metadata. Attackers can create a malicious repository with a symlinked .gitmodules pointing outside the repository tree, causing gitoxide to parse arbitrary external files as submodule configuration and expose attacker-controlled name, path, and url values.
8.7CVE-2026-82254Crates.Iogix-pack+3
EPSS score
0.49%
gitoxide before 0.69.0 contains unchecked array indexing in delta application and uncapped allocation from attacker-controlled size headers in gix-pack. Attackers can send crafted pack data during clone or fetch operations to trigger panics or out-of-memory process kills.
8.7CVE-2026-82247debianrust-gix-transport+4
EPSS score
0.41%
gitoxide's gix-url crate (<= 0.32.0, fixed in 0.37.1) uses a hand-rolled URL parser that does not treat '?' or '#' as terminating the authority component, contrary to RFC 3986. As a consequence, gix-transport's HTTP redirect identity guard (can_reuse_identity) compares the wrong host and fails open. An attacker controlling a redirect response can craft a Location header of the form <attacker-authority>?@<original-authority> so that gitoxide sends the caller's HTTP Basic Authorization credentials to an unintended host. gix-transport is affected in versions <= 0.49.0 (fixed in 0.58.1).
6CVE-2026-82248ubunturust-gix+4
EPSS score
0.34%
gix-worktree-state before 0.33.0 (part of gitoxide) allows writing files outside the worktree on Windows. gix_worktree_state::checkout() follows an existing terminal symlink during non-exclusive (incremental) materialization (destination_is_initially_empty: false) when core.symlinks is true. If a symlink entry (mode 120000) is first checked out at a path P pointing outside the worktree, a subsequent incremental checkout of a regular-file entry (mode 100644) at the same path follows the existing reparse point and writes the blob content through the link, overwriting files outside the worktree.
3.1CVE-2026-82249debianrust-gix-credentials+2
EPSS score
0.27%
gitoxide before 0.38.2 fails to validate carriage return characters in URL values passed to credential helpers. Attackers can supply URLs containing bare carriage returns to inject additional helper protocol fields and cause credential helpers to return credentials for attacker-specified hosts instead of the requested URL.
