CVE-2018-8039apache software foundationapache cxf+4
EPSS score8.51%
It is possible to configure Apache CXF to use the com.sun.net.ssl implementation via 'System.setProperty("java.protocol.handler.pkgs", "com.sun.net.ssl.internal.www.protocol");'. When this system property is set, CXF uses some reflection to try to make the HostnameVerifier work with the old com.sun.net.ssl.HostnameVerifier interface. However, the default HostnameVerifier implementation in CXF does not implement the method in this interface, and an exception is thrown. However, in Apache CXF prior to 3.2.5 and 3.1.16 the exception is caught in the reflection code and not properly propagated. What this means is that if you are using the com.sun.net.ssl stack with CXF, an error with TLS hostname verification will not be thrown, leaving a CXF client subject to man-in-the-middle attacks.CVE-2013-2160apachecxf+4EPSS score32.26%
The streaming XML parser in Apache CXF 2.5.x before 2.5.10, 2.6.x before 2.6.7, and 2.7.x before 2.7.4 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU and memory consumption) via crafted XML with a large number of (1) elements, (2) attributes, (3) nested constructs, and possibly other vectors.CVE-2013-0239apachecxf+1EPSS score4.69%
Apache CXF before 2.5.9, 2.6.x before 2.6.6, and 2.7.x before 2.7.3, when the plaintext UsernameToken WS-SecurityPolicy is enabled, allows remote attackers to bypass authentication via a security header of a SOAP request containing a UsernameToken element that lacks a password child element.CVE-2021-40690apache software foundationapache santuario+22EPSS score7.44%
All versions of Apache Santuario - XML Security for Java prior to 2.2.3 and 2.1.7 are vulnerable to an issue where the "secureValidation" property is not passed correctly when creating a KeyInfo from a KeyInfoReference element. This allows an attacker to abuse an XPath Transform to extract any local .xml files in a RetrievalMethod element.CVE-2021-22696apache software foundationapache cxf+8EPSS score6.59%
CXF supports (via JwtRequestCodeFilter) passing OAuth 2 parameters via a JWT token as opposed to query parameters (see: The OAuth 2.0 Authorization Framework: JWT Secured Authorization Request (JAR)). Instead of sending a JWT token as a "request" parameter, the spec also supports specifying a URI from which to retrieve a JWT token from via the "request_uri" parameter. CXF was not validating the "request_uri" parameter (apart from ensuring it uses "https) and was making a REST request to the parameter in the request to retrieve a token. This means that CXF was vulnerable to DDos attacks on the authorization server, as specified in section 10.4.1 of the spec. This issue affects Apache CXF versions prior to 3.4.3; Apache CXF versions prior to 3.3.10.CVE-2021-30468apache software foundationapache cxf+7EPSS score7.02%
A vulnerability in the JsonMapObjectReaderWriter of Apache CXF allows an attacker to submit malformed JSON to a web service, which results in the thread getting stuck in an infinite loop, consuming CPU indefinitely. This issue affects Apache CXF versions prior to 3.4.4; Apache CXF versions prior to 3.3.11.CVE-2015-5253apachecxf+1EPSS score5.70%
The SAML Web SSO module in Apache CXF before 2.7.18, 3.0.x before 3.0.7, and 3.1.x before 3.1.3 allows remote authenticated users to bypass authentication via a crafted SAML response with a valid signed assertion, related to a "wrapping attack."CVE-2016-6812apache software foundationapache cxf+2EPSS score7.55%
The HTTP transport module in Apache CXF prior to 3.0.12 and 3.1.x prior to 3.1.9 uses FormattedServiceListWriter to provide an HTML page which lists the names and absolute URL addresses of the available service endpoints. The module calculates the base URL using the current HttpServletRequest. The calculated base URL is used by FormattedServiceListWriter to build the service endpoint absolute URLs. If the unexpected matrix parameters have been injected into the request URL then these matrix parameters will find their way back to the client in the services list page which represents an XSS risk to the client.CVE-2016-8739apache software foundationapache cxf+2EPSS score7.32%
The JAX-RS module in Apache CXF prior to 3.0.12 and 3.1.x prior to 3.1.9 provides a number of Atom JAX-RS MessageBodyReaders. These readers use Apache Abdera Parser which expands XML entities by default which represents a major XXE risk.CVE-2025-48795apache software foundationapache cxf+25EPSS score0.73%
Apache CXF stores large stream based messages as temporary files on the local filesystem. A bug was introduced which means that the entire temporary file is read into memory and then logged. An attacker might be able to exploit this to cause a denial of service attack by causing an out of memory exception. In addition, it is possible to configure CXF to encrypt temporary files to prevent sensitive credentials from being cached unencrypted on the local filesystem, however this bug means that the cached files are written out to logs unencrypted.
Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 3.5.11, 3.6.6, 4.0.7 or 4.1.1, which fixes this issue.CVE-2025-48913apache software foundationapache cxf+12EPSS score0.82%
If untrusted users are allowed to configure JMS for Apache CXF, previously they could use RMI or LDAP URLs, potentially leading to code execution capabilities. This interface is now restricted to reject those protocols, removing this possibility.
Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 3.6.8, 4.0.9 or 4.1.3, which fix this issue.CVE-2025-23184apache software foundationapache cxf+9EPSS score2.13%
A potential denial of service vulnerability is present in versions of Apache CXF before 3.5.10, 3.6.5 and 4.0.6. In some edge cases, the CachedOutputStream instances may not be closed and, if backed by temporary files, may fill up the file system (it applies to servers and clients).CVE-2020-13954apache software foundationapache cxf+8EPSS score40.87%
By default, Apache CXF creates a /services page containing a listing of the available endpoint names and addresses. This webpage is vulnerable to a reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attack via the styleSheetPath, which allows a malicious actor to inject javascript into the web page. This vulnerability affects all versions of Apache CXF prior to 3.4.1 and 3.3.8. Please note that this is a separate issue to CVE-2019-17573.CVE-2020-1954apacheapache cxf+10EPSS score6.15%
Apache CXF has the ability to integrate with JMX by registering an InstrumentationManager extension with the CXF bus. If the ‘createMBServerConnectorFactory‘ property of the default InstrumentationManagerImpl is not disabled, then it is vulnerable to a man-in-the-middle (MITM) style attack. An attacker on the same host can connect to the registry and rebind the entry to another server, thus acting as a proxy to the original. They are then able to gain access to all of the information that is sent and received over JMX.CVE-2014-0110apachecxf+1EPSS score3.64%
Apache CXF before 2.6.14 and 2.7.x before 2.7.11 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (/tmp disk consumption) via a large invalid SOAP message.CVE-2014-0034apachecxf+2EPSS score7.41%
The SecurityTokenService (STS) in Apache CXF before 2.6.12 and 2.7.x before 2.7.9 does not properly validate SAML tokens when caching is enabled, which allows remote attackers to gain access via an invalid SAML token.CVE-2014-0109apachecxf+1EPSS score3.64%
Apache CXF before 2.6.14 and 2.7.x before 2.7.11 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via a large request with the Content-Type set to text/html to a SOAP endpoint, which triggers an error.CVE-2014-0035apachecxf+2EPSS score7.05%
The SymmetricBinding in Apache CXF before 2.6.13 and 2.7.x before 2.7.10, when EncryptBeforeSigning is enabled and the UsernameToken policy is set to an EncryptedSupportingToken, transmits the UsernameToken in cleartext, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information by sniffing the network.CVE-2014-3584apachecxf+1EPSS score7.18%
The SamlHeaderInHandler in Apache CXF before 2.6.11, 2.7.x before 2.7.8, and 3.0.x before 3.0.1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via a crafted SAML token in the authorization header of a request to a JAX-RS service.CVE-2014-3623apachecxf+4EPSS score9.22%
Apache WSS4J before 1.6.17 and 2.x before 2.0.2, as used in Apache CXF 2.7.x before 2.7.13 and 3.0.x before 3.0.2, when using TransportBinding, does not properly enforce the SAML SubjectConfirmation method security semantics, which allows remote attackers to conduct spoofing attacks via unspecified vectors.
